Viviane is 15 years old and lives in the district of Zombo in Uganda. Her father died of Aids. Her mother left the family. Therefore, Viviana and her four brothers live with their grandmother Joyce now. All five children attend school. This is only possible thanks to the support of CO-OPERAID and its donators, as Vivianes grandmother only makes small money with farming and is not able to afford the school visit for all five kids. Viviane attends class 7 and would love to become a nurse one day. Find her story on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6JXfh47PrA.
Viviane is one of around 7'000 children, that benefit from the project «Salongo ». The population in Zombo is very poor and the educational level is notably low. Only 54% of the total population (29% of the women) can read and write.
The project «Salongo» was launched to give aid to families like Viviane's. It focuses on Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) at the age of 3 to 17 years. OVCs are orphans, disabled children or children whose parents are seriously ill. The project also supports the construction, renovation or expansion of 2 preschools, 8 primary schools and 2 secondary schools. A better education at this partner schools is a chance for a secured future for the children. In addition, the project provides alphabetization courses for parents and supports the poorest families with agricultural petty projects in order to increase their income.
